GiveNOLA Day is a 24-hour event hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation to inspire people to give generously to nonprofit organizations that are making our region stronger, creating a thriving community for all. GiveNOLA Day raises money for the community, brings new donors to local nonprofits, and shows that anyone can be a philanthropist.
You can support us by visiting https://www.givenola.org/silverback-society-inc
Your donations go directly to supporting the more than 150 men who freely volunteer their time to mentor young men!
The newly developed Silverback Society app will allow us to stay in touch with our guys! With this new free app we will be able to contact them about future Silverback events, special employment opportunities, education programs, grants and scholarships. For convenience they will be able to log on with their Instagram, Twitter or email. The goal is to ensure we can keep in touch with them beyond high school but also allow them to post their latest accomplishments for their fellow Silverback Scholars and Mentors to see. The new app will be available to download in June.
The Silverback Society End of the Year Celebration is an important and valuable experience for our 8th Grade Boys. The event not only gives the Boys a valuable opportunity to meet 8th Grade boys from other Silverbacks Schools, it teaches them that they are a part of a broad network of young men who have learned the Silverback Ways of respectful real manhood and will find other such young men to network with as they move on to high school and later in college.
They will view the historic and inspirational "Tuskegee Airman" movie together and then have lunch as they are addressed by Gregory Rattler Jr., an experienced Silverback Mentor who serves the City of New Orleans as Director of the Cease Fire initiative.
At this year’s ending event each young man will receive their Silverback Backpack to be used in high school which is of such quality that it should carry each young man through college.
This year the End of the Year Celebrations will take place at Ashe Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha C. Haley Boulevard.
We are always looking for men who are willing to volunteer their time in local schools and mentor young men. If you or someone you know is interested in learning how to join our mentoring movement, click the image and watch our 30 sec video.
