Silverback Society News

March Newsletter

Our Silverback Society High School Chapter from Warren Easton sits down with Norman Robinson.

Our first high School chapter of the Silverback Society has exceeded our expectations. Norman speaks with the men who helped organize them and then with a delegation of the boys in the first chapter which was organized last year. The Warren Easton Chapter of the Silverback Society created their own initiative to address the tragedy caused by the tornado touchdown in East New Orleans. If we had any doubts about our impact on young men, this video erased them completely and their expressions have so encouraged us to get the next two chapters at Edna Karr and Landry - Walker organized and up and running.

Our Young Men Are Treated to A VIP Luncheon

Watch this clip of what our Annual VIP Luncheons are all about!

This month over 500 young men from 17 different area middle schools will be treated to a first-class VIP luncheon at world famous Dooky Chase's Restaurant . As part of the four course meal, the boys will be given a lesson on proper dining etiquette by a representative of Dooky Chase and also engage in a discussion on civic responsibility.

The luncheon is the place where our mentees demonstrate who they have become as a result of the unbending commitment of our mentors. We use the opportunity of these VIP luncheons to teach Lesson Seven from our curriculum on civic responsibility. We challenge them to be engaged players in their communities and use their mentors as examples of what kind of men we expect them to be and how we expect them to participate in and contribute to making life better for us all.

We are thankful to Dooky Chase's a long-time friend and supporter of the Silverback Society! (CLICK IMAGE TO SEE VIDEO)

We are grateful to receive the Network Partner Award from our friends at Firstline Schools New Orleans.
